The Department of Rural Economy (Deral) of Paraná, Brazil, has increased its forecast for the 2022/23 soybean crop to 20.9 million tonnes, up by 200,000 tonnes from the January forecast, due to reduced drought impacts. This represents a 70% increase from the previous season. The final figures may be the largest soybean harvest in Paraná's history. The first crop corn production forecast remains at 3.69 million tonnes, with a 24% annual increase, and the second crop cereal potential is estimated at 15.38 million tonnes, barely stable from the previous forecast.
However, potential production losses are expected as 26% of the summer corn harvest and 26% of the second crop planting were done outside the ideal period, which may result in switching to wheat. This off-calendar planting increases the risk of production losses and may lead to restrictions on public resources for the crop.
