The difficult situation on the hop market in Poland, growers appeal for help from the government

The Lublin Chamber of Agriculture calls for action to stabilize the situation on the hop market caused by the pandemic situation. In the Lubelskie Voivodeship - in the Opole District, almost 40% of the national hops production is located. Hops growers amid the ongoing crisis caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic are concerned about falling purchase prices. The current proposed price for 1 kg of hops is from 9 to 16 PLN / kg. On the other hand, in long-term contracts concluded by purchasing companies, farmers were offered from 20 to 27 PLN / kg. - Despite the contracting, not all companies have complied with the contract, there are abuses where the price offered to hop producers per kg is much lower than the one included in the contract. The situation is aggravated by the fact that many producers are expiring long-term contracts this year and the purchasing companies are not interested in signing contracts for further years.
