The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of South Korea is revising the Enforcement Rules of the Livestock Contagious Disease Prevention Act to include stricter regulations for poultry farms, particularly to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza. These revisions will extend the previously required disinfection and quarantine facilities, currently only applied to breeding chickens, broilers, and ducks, to other poultry types such as quail and turkey. Large laying hen farms will now be required to install tunnel-type disinfection facilities, and farm owners' vehicles must be registered as livestock vehicles to prevent disease spread. Other updates include stricter regulations on CCTV installation, the use of disposable egg chairs, and disinfection equipment protection from freezing. These changes are set to be implemented by October 19, following a detailed public announcement and a thorough consultation process with industry stakeholders and experts.
