The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in South Korea has announced the recall of zucchini and pumpkin seeds found to be Living Modified Organisms (LMOs), which are not approved under the country's LMO Act. The decision was made after LMO seeds, not approved for circulation in Korea, were discovered during inspections of foreign zucchini seeds. The ministry has banned the sale of these seeds and has suspended shipments of zucchini pumpkins from farms. A domestic company is under investigation for breeding LMO seeds without the necessary domestic quarantine procedures. The government is also conducting inspections on all seeds of about 30 agricultural products that were developed and distributed in foreign countries as LMOs.
