Five tuna vessels operated by the Tunacons Foundation, including Panamanian company Pesquera Jadran and American Tri Marine, as well as three Ecuadorian companies: Nirsa, Servigrup, and Eurofish, have achieved the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for their sustainable fishing practices. This makes Ecuador the first South American country to certify yellowfin tuna. The MSC certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainable fishing, indicating efforts to maintain healthy tuna populations, minimize ecosystem impact, and promote responsible fishery management.
