Ecuador's banana exports in 2022 saw a decrease of 12.16% compared to the previous year, totaling 332.79 million cartons. The main destinations for these exports included the European Union, Russia, and the Middle East, but there was a notable decrease in exports to the United States. This decline in exports is attributed to factors such as increased production costs, lower international demand, the Russia-Ukraine war, and global inflation. Adverse weather conditions also impacted the crop, leading to smaller fruit sizes and reduced yields. The export association, Acorbanec, predicts a further decrease in the harvest for the first quarter of 2023.
