The European Commission's latest report shows a 3% increase in the total value of EU agri-food trade for the first half of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, reaching 157,100 million euros. This is despite a slow start to the year. The report highlights an increase in exports by nearly 6% to 95.3 billion euros, and a 1% decrease in imports to 61.8 billion euros, resulting in a surplus of 33.5 billion euros. This represents a 21% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. The monthly values of EU agri-food exports and imports in June 2021 were also 14% and 10% higher than in the same month of 2020, respectively. There was a notable increase in exports to the United States, China, Switzerland, Norway, Israel, and Canada, while imports from Brazil, India, Australia, Serbia, and Argentina also increased. However, exports to the UK and imports to the EU from the UK saw a decrease.
