The European Union is expected to have stable production of fresh tomatoes in 2023, however, exports to the UK, Asia, and North America continue to decline while imports from countries like Morocco and Turkey are increasing. The market for fresh tomatoes remains stable, with consumption at 15 kg/person, but smaller calibers are becoming more popular resulting in lower overall weight. The main challenges for the EU's tomato industry are the high cost of energy, competition from third countries, and customs issues.
