The European Commission (EC) has reported a 4.5% decrease in chicken meat exports by EU countries, excluding the UK, in 2020 compared to 2019, totaling over 1.7 million tons. The main importers were Ghana, Philippines, Ukraine, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Hong Kong, which accounted for only 44% of the total exports. The remaining 56% was distributed among other countries in smaller volumes. Despite the current drop, the EC anticipates a consistent increase in chicken meat exports to 2030, driven by the demand for specific cuts and chicken meat as a substitute for pork in the main destinations. However, factors such as reduced demand from Ukraine and China, and uncertainties from the global recovery from Covid-19 could impact this growth, especially with strong competition from Brazil.
