The European Cocoa Association (ECA) has appealed to European Commission president, Ursula Von der Leyen, for a delay in the implementation of the EUDR regulations aimed at combating deforestation in supply chains, citing concerns over the law's detailed delivery and potential impact on trade. The ECA joins a chorus of critics, including Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz and countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brazil, who warn of a possible two-tier trading system if the regulations are not adjusted. The ECA also points out the lack of clarity regarding the monitoring information system and the country benchmarking system, among other issues, as reasons for seeking a postponement. Despite these concerns, the ECA remains supportive of the EUDR's goals and pledges to collaborate in its implementation.
