Italy and Greece have recommenced purchasing wheat from Russia in May after a brief halt in April, importing 4.2 thousand tons and 2.3 million euros worth of durum wheat respectively. However, overall, the EU has seen a 22% decrease in grain imports from Russia in May, totaling 6.5 million euros. In response to security concerns, the European Commission proposed imposing increased duties on grain, oilseed, and processed product imports from Russia and Belarus, which were approved by the EU Council and effective as of July 1.
