Agricultural authorities from Belize and Mexico are working together to enhance the import protocol for Belizean cattle, with the goal of increasing the annual import volume while maintaining health safety standards. Currently, Mexico imports about 5,000 disease-free cattle each year from Orange Walk, Belize. The collaboration focuses on stringent disease testing for tuberculosis, brucellosis, and ticks, and is part of a larger strategy aimed at supporting small and medium-sized livestock farmers in Central America. This initiative also includes the exchange of resources, methods, and technologies to foster development and tackle common challenges, such as the cattle screwworm found in Panama and Costa Rica. The partnership highlights the significance of agricultural health and safety in the relationship between Belize and Mexico.
