Farm Africa, in collaboration with UN Women and Ikungi District Council, has launched a sunflower project in four villages to boost the income of women smallholder farmers. The project, which was introduced in 2019, has empowered women by improving their economic conditions, increasing their involvement in decision-making, and providing them with land ownership rights. In 2022, the government and other stakeholders offered sunflower seeds to support farmers, leading to positive changes and increased confidence among women. The project has also established women's groups to enhance their participation in sunflower farming and provide a reliable market for their produce.
