The federal government is committed to promoting the production of oilseed crops in Nigeria due to the increasing consumption rate, and the country's tropical climate allows for diverse species and varieties of oilseed crops to be grown. The increasing importance of oilseeds in industries is due to their phytochemical and functional properties, leading to growth in markets for food consumption, industries, and livestock feeds. The government, research institutes, and private sector stakeholders are collaborating to increase production and productivity of major oilseeds in Nigeria, as well as working to address challenges in the oilseed industry such as low adoption of technology and quality control issues.
