Researchers in China have successfully bred two new banana varieties, "Mei Jiao 1" and "Mei Jiao 2", that are resistant to fusarium wilt. These new varieties are expected to play a crucial role in supplementing China's food security and extending the banana industry chain. The Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences has also developed a new wilt-tolerant banana variety, "Guijiao No. 9", with independent intellectual property rights, marking a significant breakthrough in the selection and breeding of banana wilt-resistant varieties in Guangxi. The development of these disease-resistant banana varieties is a crucial step towards combating fusarium wilt, a highly infectious and incurable soil-borne disease that has posed a significant threat to banana cultivation in China.
