Colombia has shipped its first batch of beef to Macao, China, following a three-month approval process for beef exports to the region. The shipment, containing approximately 26 tons of beef, was sent by Athena Foods and marks a significant step towards exploiting the Chinese market. The export is a product of collaborative efforts by various agencies, including agricultural, foreign trade, and diplomacy institutions, as part of Colombia's health diplomacy strategy. This strategy aims to capitalize on the growing Chinese market, fueled by a 72% growth in meat consumption, by opening more markets to boost agricultural exports. In the first four months of 2021, beef and offal exports experienced a 94.4% increase, generating 1.06 million rural jobs and contributing 24.8% to the Agricultural GDP.
