Brazil, known for its beer consumption, now designates Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro as the National Capital of Hops with Law nº 14.414/2022. The city, located near Rio de Janeiro, hosts the first hop seedling nursery in Brazil, aiming to fulfill the country's brewery demand currently met by imports. The 2021 production saw 12,356 tons of hops and 26,539 hop seedlings in Teresópolis alone, with an anticipated 50,000 seedlings for 2022.
