Spain, backed by France, Croatia, Hungary, and Latvia, is urging the European Commission to provide more support to the beef and veal sectors. The countries believe that the hospitality industry's restrictions and closures have led to falling prices for these sectors, which can't be offset by increased household consumption. Despite previous private storage measures for beef, prices have continued to decline. The average price for EU beef is now 1.5% lower than last year, and the veal sector is experiencing even more significant drops. The countries have suggested that private storage of chilled beef has been a positive measure for market stabilization but are calling for more measures to address the challenging market conditions.
