The major sowing campaign that is about to end in Argentina is generating movements in harvesters and company offices. At midday on this Tuesday, the company RAGT Seeds announced the purchase of Syngenta's malt barley (or brewer's) seed business, although in this case it was a global operation.
This news affects the 2-row spring barley seeds that Syngenta previously owned. According to the company, the transaction is subject to the usual approval requirements (including local employee consultation procedures) and is expected to close by December 30, 2025, just in time for RAGT members to toast with a cold beer and new varieties of their own malt.
The transaction also includes the acquisition of Syngenta's Market Stainton, a malt barley improvement center located in Lincolnshire, United Kingdom.
