U.S. farmers plan to expand sunflower areas by 50% against a backdrop of limited reserves and growing demand, according to data from a study by the country's agriculture ministry, cited by the electronic publication Farm Progress. Based on yield estimates, the department's experts' initial forecast for the sunflower crop in the U.S. this year is 834,610 tons – 60% more than last year. The most significant growth is expected in oilseed sunflowers, with an anticipated planting area of 388,703 thousand hectares – 62% more than in 2024. The harvest is projected to increase by 70% to around 730,000 tons. Industry representatives' estimates indicate that sunflower processing in the U.S. will rise to 425,000 tons, with domestic sunflower oil consumption continuing to increase, reaching 308,900 tons during the agricultural season 2025-2026, starting October 1.
