France has seen a slight increase in cereal sowing areas in autumn by 1.2%, totaling 6.7 million hectares, which is above the average of the last five years. The soft wheat area has grown by 81 thousand hectares, reaching 4.7 million hectares, while barley area has seen a minor growth of 13 thousand hectares to 1.3 million hectares. On the other hand, durum wheat areas have shrunk by 11 thousand hectares. The rape expansion was notable at 4.9%, covering 1.3 million hectares. The Ministry of Agriculture also confirmed the soft wheat harvest estimate for 2022 at 33.7 million tonnes, but the corn harvest forecast has been revised downward to 10.8 million tons due to lower than expected yields.
