The Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST) in Brazil is referred to as 'Organic Rice Champions' by French newspaper Le Monde. The movement began promoting agroecology in the 1990s and is now the largest organic rice producer in Latin America, with a record production of 15 thousand tons in 2020. The MST is responsible for the production of several pesticide-free products in Brazil, including rice, vegetables, coffee, cocoa, honey, and manioc. The movement saw significant growth during the two governments of President Lula, but has faced attacks from President Jair Bolsonaro, who supports agribusiness and the use of transgenic food, monoculture, and agrochemical practices.
