In the first quarter of 2024, Germany has emerged as a significant supplier of fresh and frozen pork to South Korea, ranking sixth globally with approximately 6,600 tons imported. According to data from the European Commission, the total pork exports to South Korea were slightly higher, at around 7,600 tons, valued at EUR 26.3 million. This resurgence in Germany's pork exports seems to be at the expense of other European Union suppliers, with notable declines in imports from Spain and the Netherlands. Overall, South Korea's global pork purchases increased by 13.7% in the first quarter of 2024, with the United States, Canada, and Chile also seeing increased exports to the Asian market.
