The German market is becoming more accessible for Almería tomatoes, making it a top priority for fruit and vegetable companies in the province. Germany is the largest market for fresh tomato exports from Almería and Spain. German consumers prefer small, cherry or cherry tomatoes and are willing to pay higher prices for tasteful or larger tomatoes. Due to high energy costs, the number of hectares cultivated with artificial light tomatoes in the Netherlands has significantly reduced, providing an opportunity for Almería. Germans also prefer organic or sustainably produced tomatoes, leading to a decrease in consumption of conventional tomatoes.
