Germany's beer industry experienced a 4.5% decline in sales in 2023, continuing a long-term downward trend. The Federal Statistical Office reported that approximately 8.4 billion litres of beer were sold, excluding non-alcoholic beer and imports from outside the EU. Domestic sales, which constitute over 80% of the total, fell by 4.2% to 6.9 billion litres, while exports decreased by 5.9%. The decline is attributed to health concerns, rising raw material costs, and climate change impacting European hops yields.
