The Seremi de Agricultura of the Los Lagos region has reported that out of 135 tests, 38 strawberry crops have been infected with the nematode plague, bringing the total affected areas to 12 regions in Chile. The nematode, a microscopic worm that does not affect human health but causes fruit deformities, was declared an agricultural emergency by the Ministry of Agriculture on August 22. The additional treatments required due to the plague could potentially increase the price of strawberries.
