The Indian government has increased the minimum support price (MSP) for copra by up to Rs 420, setting it at Rs 12,100 per quintal for the 2025 season. This decision was made by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and is based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices. The total budget for this initiative is Rs 855 crore. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation (NCCF) will be the central agencies for copra procurement. This move is expected to provide better returns to coconut growers and encourage more copra production to meet the growing demand for coconut products.
