Pigeon pea traders and millers in India have appealed to the government to increase the minimum support price (MSP) of pigeon peas (tur dal) to boost farmer interest. The high prices of pulses this year and the recent drop have led to the formation of a government committee to monitor the situation. The president of the Dal Mill Association, Suresh Agrawal, pointed out that the MSP for pigeon peas is lower than that of other pulses, leading to less farming interest. The Indian government has decided to import additional pigeon peas to meet domestic demand.
