A large swarm of locusts, likely to be the blue-winged grasshopper (Tropidacris collaris), has been spotted in Mato Grosso, Brazil, causing damage to fruit and vegetable production. This is the second such incident this year. Agricultural agencies are mapping the extent of the infestation and working on a control strategy, excluding the use of insecticides due to potential harm to people and other crops. The cause of the locusts' migration is believed to be regional fires. Currently, most locust clouds are contained, with only two having migrated into Argentina, where an alert has been issued.
