Bulgaria: Grazing, trade and transport of sheep and goats are prohibited in three areas

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) is introducing additional measures against the spread of small ruminant pox in certain areas of the country from today, October 18, 2024. In the regions of Yambol, Haskovo and Stara Zagora, until November 30, 2024, the grazing, trade, movement and transport of small ruminants, with the exception of those for immediate slaughter or transit, are prohibited. Slaughter will be allowed only after a clinical examination by an official veterinarian (OVL) and laboratory examination of samples. The movement of the animals will be carried out along a pre-approved route, without stopping, with mandatory disinfection of the means of transport. For this purpose, a permit regime is being introduced, and the permits will be issued by the Regional Directorates for Food Safety (ODBH).
