Sunflowers have always been one of the most beloved crops worldwide. However, they have now garnered more attention than ever after a Ukrainian-American man in the United States broke the world record for the tallest sunflower. In Fort Wayne, Indiana, Alex Babich grew the sunflower that the Guinness Book of World Records officially recognized as the tallest in the world. The plant, named Clover, grew to 35 feet 9 inches, or 1089.66 centimeters, surpassing the previous record holder from Germany by more than one and a half meters. At 47 years old, Babich moved to America at the age of fourteen due to the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. He began growing sunflowers seven years ago, primarily out of respect for his homeland, as the sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine. Babich's method is based on careful selection.
