Gyeongbuk Province in South Korea is planning to establish a subtropical crop research center in Pohang to combat the effects of climate change. The province has shortlisted Pohang as the preferred location following a site evaluation service involving 22 cities and counties. The province will now review laws and regulations, and initiate administrative procedures for a mid- to long-term budget plan for the research center. This move is in response to climate change concerns, which could negatively impact the quality of fruit trees. The province is also implementing a five-year comprehensive plan for subtropical crop cultivation and providing technical support to farmers.
