In 2024, hazelnut exports from the Black Sea region saw a significant increase of 24 percent in the January-November period, reaching 289 thousand 910 tons and generating a foreign exchange income of $2.35 billion. Trabzon province was the leading contributor to these exports, accounting for 31 percent of the total. Hazelnut exports were made to 125 countries, with Germany, Italy, Poland, France, and the People's Republic of China being the top five. Despite the challenges posed by the brown skunk pest, the increase in exports was notable, with a 15 percent rise in volume and a 45 percent increase in value compared to the previous year. There is optimism that the yield and export numbers could further increase if the studies on the brown skunk pest are successful.
