Moldova has seen a decline in the cultivation and export of currants and gooseberries, once occupying the fifth and sixth positions in berry plantation areas. This decline is due to factors such as increased droughts, reduced demand from juice producers, decreased purchases for canning, and a drop in consumer preference for sour berries. However, the Association of Berry Producers "Pomușoarele Moldovei" is optimistic and believes that promoting sweet varieties of these berries could reverse this trend. The association plans to promote these varieties in the HoReCa sector and through summer events. The current wholesale price for currants and gooseberries remains relatively low, at about 45 lei/kg ($2.34/kg) for both.
