A recent report by the Institute of Agricultural Economics (AKI) indicates a rise in slaughterhouse processing across all livestock sectors in Hungary for the first half of 2021. Despite a decrease in the number of pigs, there has been an increase in the number of sows and poultry sent to slaughterhouses, attributed to the lifting of pandemic restrictions. However, challenges such as falling market prices for live animals and feed, alongside decreasing purchase prices for slaughter poultry, pose challenges for farmers. Despite these challenges, the volume of slaughtered sheep and cattle has seen an increase, with a notable rise in exports of live cattle.
