Britain is experiencing a shortage of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and salad greens, with supermarkets imposing purchase limits. The shortage is attributed to crop problems in Southern Europe and Northern Africa, as well as high energy costs reducing greenhouse output in Britain and the Netherlands. Therese Coffey, the Minister for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, has suggested that Britons could eat more turnips as an alternative. The shortage is expected to last up to a month.
