A study by Wageningen University reveals that in the event of reduced import duties, the US and Ukraine could provide egg powder at a lower price than the EU. This is due to lower production costs in these countries, with Ukraine, USA, Argentina, and India having costs that are 21% lower in the US, 19% in Ukraine, 15% in Argentina, and 14% in India compared to the EU average. The higher costs in the EU are attributed to EU animal welfare, environmental, and food safety legislation, which account for 14% of the total production cost. This means that without tariffs, EU producers would be unable to compete, leading to increased competition in the EU egg powder market.
