DEFA group experts prepared an analytical report on the volume of imports of fish and seafood in Russia in 2020, compared the results with the indicators of 2019 and made forecasts for 2021. The total volume of imports in 2020 amounted to 445.6 thousand tons, which is 7.9% less than the previous year.

A noticeable decrease in volumes occurred in several product groups at once: for saury / sardines - by 38.8%, for surimi - by 21.8% and for pelagic - by 18.1%. The volume in the group of crustaceans increased markedly - by 23.2% and mollusks - by 16.9%. The following dynamics is observed within the main import groups. The volume of imports of red fish for 12 months of 2020 increased by 9.6% and amounted to 93.7 thousand tons, in 2019 this figure was at the level of 85.5 thousand tons. A record increase in volume by 97.3% occurred for chilled trout, the import of coho salmon increased by almost 1.4 times, the annual volume is 5.8 thousand tons. The volume of imported fresh frozen red fish from Chile amounted to 57.3 thousand tons, which is 1.7% lower than in 2019. Total imports of chilled salmon decreased by 2.9% and amounted to 14.7 thousand tons. In the pelagic group, the volume of imports reached 131.1 thousand tons.
