Despite the ongoing full-scale invasion, Ukraine is projected to achieve a record harvest of 239.2 thousand tons of watermelons in 2023, according to UKAB analyst Maksym Hopka. This comes after a significant drop in watermelon and cantaloupe production in 2022. The leading regions for watermelon cultivation have shifted to Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Vinnytsia. The planted areas for watermelons and melons are expected to increase by 4.3% and 5.5% respectively in 2024. Favorable weather conditions, despite heavy rains in June, are contributing to the positive outlook for the harvest.
