The article highlights efforts in Chile's Cochamó region to regulate beekeeping practices, particularly the transhumance movement of bees, to prevent overloading of flora and ensure compliance with national regulations. The Regional Director of SAG, Eduardo Monreal, emphasized the need for beekeepers to register and adhere to regulations, with penalties for non-compliance. The article also introduces an initiative by the Beekeepers Network, APIRED, to create an informative map to designate less crowded spaces for transhumant beekeepers, provided all resident beekeepers are registered. Additionally, it discusses the health surveillance measures implemented by the SAG to control bee diseases and facilitate export certification, addressing the main disease challenges faced by bees in Chile over the past five years, mainly varroasis.
