The Rostov region in Russia is poised to continue its record agricultural outputs into the current year, with a significant portion of its 5 million hectares dedicated to grains, achieving a notable grain harvest of 16.4 million tons and a sunflower harvest of 2.3 million tons in 2023. The use of modern technologies and an increase in mineral fertilizer application are key factors in these achievements. Meanwhile, the introduction of seeds for certain crops starting January 23, 2024, is expected to minimally impact the sector due to the predominance of domestic seeds, which have fully replaced imported ones for main crops like sugar beet. Efforts to localize seed production and implement supply quotas are underway to support the long-term development of domestic breeding, despite challenges in fully meeting domestic demand for some crops like peas.
