The El Hatico Nature Reserve in Valle del Cauca, Colombia, is a model of sustainable agriculture and biodiversity conservation, where cattle ranching and sugar cane cultivation coexist. Owned by the Molina Durán SAS family, the reserve has been recognized with the National Blue Planet Ecology Award and is now being promoted by the Valle del Cauca Regional Autonomous Corporation (CVC) as a best practice for other producers. The approach focuses on the integration of agriculture, livestock, and forestry, with practices such as crop-livestock integration, reduced emission milk production, and agroecological sugarcane cultivation. These methods have led to increased biodiversity, improved soil health, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, earning the reserve local and national recognition.
