In October and November 2021, a series of product recalls occurred due to incorrect labeling and the undeclared presence of peanuts. The issue was traced back to mislabeled peanut oil that was labeled as sunflower oil. The problem was widespread, with reports from Belgium, France, Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Sweden. The recalls affected a variety of products, including confectionery, mayonnaise, sauces, and ready meals. The most significant finding of mislabeled peanut oil was in Belgium.
