The Vegetable Oil Industry Association of India (SEA) confirmed a record import of palm oil in June this year, which amounted to 955.7 thousand tonnes, which was the highest figure in 11 months – since July 2024 and 60% higher than the figure in May. Experts say the growth was due to low prices for palm oil compared to soybean and sunflower oil, as well as replenishment of stocks. Soybean oil imports into the country decreased by 9.8% to 450 thousand tonnes, while sunflower oil imports increased by 17.8% to 216 thousand tonnes. Total vegetable oil reserves in India increased for the first time in 7 months to 1.568 million tonnes.
