Indigenous Forest Association of Madre de Dios directly exports 96 tons of Brazil nuts to the United States

This Wednesday, July 8, the Indigenous Forest Association of Madre de Dios (AFIMAD) will directly export 96 tons of Brazil nuts (Bertholleta excelsa) to the United States, thanks to a contract with the American company Caro-Nut Company Inc. and To the support of the Forest Program of the National Forest and Wildlife Service (Serfor), an entity attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri). The shipment of chestnut from the Tambopata and Las Piedras district of the Tambopata province, constitutes the first shipment made by AFIMAD to the North American market directly, previously it was done through a company and, in other cases, in association with other communities. Since 2018, seven of the 12 member communities of AFIMAD, receive technical assistance from the Serfor Forest Program, in relation to obtaining organic certification and fair trade of their products and the search for markets, among others.
