The Indonesian coconut industry is facing challenges due to the country's export policy of coconut kernels or whole coconuts, which is seen as hindering the development of the domestic downstream industry. Amrizal Idroes, Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Coconut Processing Industry Association (HIPKI), believes that this policy is leading to the loss of potential raw materials for local industries and creating competitors in other countries. Leonardo A.A Teguh Sambodo, Expert Staff of the Minister of National Development Planning for the Development of Leading Sectors and Infrastructure of Bappenas, has suggested stopping the export of whole coconuts to address these issues and attract foreign investment.
