In April 2024, Indonesia experienced a significant 70.8% increase in sugar imports compared to April 2023, marking the highest import volume for that month in three years. Despite this monthly surge, the total sugar imports for the first four months of the year fell by 5.7% compared to the same period in 2023, resulting in the lowest import volume in the last five years. The majority of the imports in April were raw sugar, accounting for 96.9% of the total, with Brazil being the primary supplier, contributing 81.2% of the monthly imports.
