Japan has allocated 5 billion yen to support the increase of productive lifespan of dairy cows, with incentives provided for using genetic resources with high longevity calculation. This initiative aims to address the problem of reduced fecundity and production life in dairy cows by providing grants to farms that use genetic resources from sire bulls with high longevity and fecundity. The Longevity Calculation index, which considers traits such as lactation ability, body type, rearing period, somatic cell count, and body condition, will be used for selection to extend productive life.
