Japan's scallop exports in 2022 saw a significant increase from 2020 volumes, with a total of 128,000 tons and a value of 94.5 billion yen, marking a 1.6 times increase in volume and a doubling of the value. To further boost scallop exports, the Japan Scallop Export Promotion Association (J-HOTATE Association) was launched in October 2023, uniting 74 members such as producers, processors, and fishery-related distributors and traders, with the goal of promoting high-quality and healthy flavor scallop products through sustainable farming practices.
