Malaysia's Plantation and Commodities Minister, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, has called for enhanced cooperation with Indonesia to handle the regulatory challenges in the global palm oil industry. He cautioned about protectionist policies such as the EUDR, which could result in trade barriers. The Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) aims to ensure fair treatment for smallholders, improve market access, and promote sustainable practices. The meeting was attended by representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Honduras, and Congo, among other countries. Indonesia, the world's largest palm oil producer, is using palm oil for biodiesel to combat climate change, and Malaysia and Indonesia collectively account for over 70% of the global palm oil market.
